Esmerelda Braithwaite, a.k.a. "Super Collie"

"For Whom The Bells Toll"

Super Collie confronts an evil-doer in the belfy of a cathedral!

[Super Collie takes a crook!]
Simon Barber
(UK)
 "Super Collie takes a crook!"

The first ever Super Collie guest picture! Drawn by Simon as part of a picture swap at a Yateley housecon in 2001. The background for this and his second picture was done with Vistapro.

[Guardian of the range]
Simon Barber
(UK)
"Super Collie - Guardian of the Range"

Drawn by Simon at one of the Yateley housecons I attended in 2001 in the UK.

[Super Collie by Bhav]
Bhavesh Patel
(UK)
 "Super Collie, by Bhavpfox"

This was drawn as part of a picture swap with Bhavesh Patel, a London furry artist whom I had the pleasure of meeting at several of the London Furmeets I attended in 2001. Bhav's cartoony style is different and very refreshing.

[Super Collie, by Bernard Doove]
Bernard Doove
(Australia)
"Super Collie, by Bernard"

Bernard very kindly drew this rendition of Super Collie for me. I love the way the colouring has come out!
This picture also appeared on the cover of South Fur Lands issue #21.

[The day I met Super Collie]
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
"The day I met Super Collie"

Lothar drew this rendition of his character Andbessa meeting Super Collie in my sketchbook while at Memphit Mini-Con in Seeheim, Germany in 2001. I love the detail in this one, and really appreciate the effort he made in colouring this.

[Super Collie's suppliers are a bother]
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
"Dear Super Collie..."

Lothar drew this very funny sketch in my sketchbook for me at Eurofurence 7, Freusberg Castle in Germany. The trials and tribulations a super-heroine must deal with when you're not either independently wealthy or working for the government...

[A call to duty...]
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
"A Call to Duty"

This was the picture that Lothar surprised me with at the Eurofurence 7 artshow at Freusberg Castle, Germany in 2001. I had to wait for another month and a half before I was able to catch up with the copy of this picture that Lothar had sent to New Zealand. It was worth the wait!

[What super-heroines are REALLY thinking...]
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
"Musings"

Lothar shows us more from the practical side of being a middle-class self-supporting super-heroine in the big city!

[Quoll Hunt sample from
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
"Quoll Hunt, Chakat Style (Part 3)" Sample

This is a small sample of Lothar's three-page comic "Quoll Hunting Chakat Style, Part 3" published in South Fur Lands issue 33. Run, don't walk, to your furry fanzine supplier (or order direct) and get a copy.

Yes, this is a shameless plug!

[Super Collie in flight]
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
"Calling Houston..."

Super Collie makes a death-defying leap from a high-rise building towards a waiting helicopter...

[For whom the bell tolls...]
Lothar Renz
(Germany)
[You /ate/ the customs officer?]
"Thaily Brimstone"
(Netherlands)
"Travelling Companion"

Another Eurofurence 7 sketch. Super Collie finds Thaily the Lox (Lion-Fox hybrid) a useful companion when dealing with immigration officials, and Thaily has developed a taste for airport food...

[The essential Super Collie]
Clark Alan Corwin
(USA)
"The Essential Super Collie" (Commissioned picture)

When I contacted Clark to ask whether he'd be interested in doing a commission picture of Super Collie for me, he sent me this wonderful concept sketch. I liked it so much that I asked him to complete it for me and add it to the commission! To me, this picture captures Super Collie perfectly - strong, beautiful, with a mischievious streak to her personality.

I cannot praise this picture enough! Well done Clark!

[Super Collie - Guardian Shepherd]
Clark Alan Corwin
(USA)
"Super Collie - Guardian Shepherd" (Commissioned picture)

The actual work that I commissioned from Clark. Here Super Collie poses in the Mackenzie high country in New Zealand, with the Lake Tekapo Sheepdog Monument in the background.

[Super Collie's Fragile Lipstick...]
Roy D. Pounds
(USA)
"Super Collie's Fragile Lipstick..."

Roy surprised me with this picture (and its excruciatingly bad pun!) during my unanticipated extended stay in Los Angeles in the aftermath of the World Trade Centre attack in September 2001.

Having this phrase bouncing around my head for two days certainly helped take my mind off things! Thanks Roy!

[Super Collie, by John Tatman]

[Coloured Super Collie, by John Tatman]

"Little John" Tatman
(UK)
"Super Collie, by John Tatman"

I really like the way Super Collie looks in this picture. So sweet, innocent and demure... don't you just want to give her a hug?

John: Yes, yes I know its a cop out, I was going to do the evil version, complete in shiny black leather, but the pose didn't quite work for it...

I took the liberty of colouring John's picture, and he is happy to have it posted here on this site.

[Well, you did say 'Super *Collie*'...]
Grant Buist
(New Zealand)
"A bit literal, no?"

Grant Buist, noted Wellington cartoonist and creator of "Brunswick" and "Jitterati", drew this rendition of Super Collie at the "Armageddon" pulp-culture expo in Wellington in 2004. This is the first Kiwi guest rendition of Super Collie!

[Super Collie, by Lex]
Lex Cypher
(New Zealand)
"Super Collie, by Lex"

Drawn by Lex Cypher at Icon, the 2005 National Science Fiction Convention in Wellington.

[Super Collie]
John Bandow
(USA)
"Super Collie, by Marcus Starkiller"

A nice rendition of Super Collie from an artist specialising in "Star Wars" furries.

[Super Collie]

(USA)
"Super Collie - Jedi Pose"

John: I got the pose for [this picture] from a jedi I saw in a Star Wars comic.

[Super Collie Action Figure!]
John Bandow
(USA)
"Super Collie Action Figure"

Be the envy of your friends! The first 3-D rendition of Super Collie, using existing action figure parts as a base. Not bad at all!

[Super Collie action pose]

"Super Collie in action"

Super Collie swinging her Shepherd's Crook, at some deserving miscreant no doubt :)

[Super Collie resting]

"Super Collie resting"

Super Collie in a relaxed pose, in between Saving The WorldTM

[Super Collie / B5 crossover]
John Bandow
(USA)
"The Braithwaite Bloodline"

John postulated that one of Super Collie's descendants might be serving in a future Earthforce from a Super Collie / Babylon 5 crossover.

[Super-Deformed Super Collie! Beware the cuteness!]
"Abigaille"
(New Zealand)
[New!] "KAWAII! - a.k.a Super-Deformed Anime Super Collie"

Drawn in my sketchbook at the 2006 Wellington "Armageddon" pulp culture expo - and the first rendition of Super Collie to be accompanied by a health warning for diabetics, as the 2.5 MegaChans of cuteness may increase your blood-sugar ratio to dangerous levels...

But isn't she so CUUUUTE! This is already one of my favorite guest sketches of Our Heroine!

[An unusual (naked) Super Collie]
(Unknown)
(New Zealand)
[New!] "Naked Anime Collie"

Another sketch from the 2006 Wellington "Armageddon" pulp culture expo. Unfortunatly the chap who drew this didn't leave a legible signature - all I know is that he was at the "DeviantArt" stand along with Abigaille.

[Collie Pole Dancer]
"Jan"
(New Zealand)
[New!] "Collie Pole Dancer"

Another sketch from the 2006 Wellington "Armageddon" pulp culture expo. If super-heroing every fails as a day job, I expect Esmerelda could have a crack at being a pole-dancer...

[May's spot of bother]
Grant Preston
(NZ)
"Duration I can control... but temperature?"

One of the first ever artist renditions of my character MayFurr from FurryMUCK. Here MayFurr tries to use a local dragon's firey breath to toast crumpets, but there's a slight miscalculation!
Snorty © Brett Tamahori.

[Hey! MayFurr!]
Bernard Doove
(Australia)
"Hey! MayFurr!"

One of the earliest renditions of MayFurr, and still what I would call the definitive picture of him.

[May goes to England]
KeV Beeley
(UK)
"MayFurr visits the Northern Hemisphere"

KeV drew this for me during my first working trip to England in 1997. Obviously a parody of how the Southern Hemisphere views the Northern.. and vice-versa :)

[YiffClass headrests!]
Bernard Doove
(Australia)
"YiffClass - the best head-rests!"

Bernard drew this cameo of MayFurr as part of his contribution to the "YiffClass" art series. Mmmm, headrests...

[May as a taur]
Bernard Doove
(Australia)
"What do you mean? Why should I feel different?"

This sketchbook picture was drawn by Bernard when I visited him in Melbourne in 1998. The infamous Taur Transmogrifier strikes again!

[May drawn by Rommel]
Rommel Ignacio
(Phillippines)
"MayFurr, by Rom"

Drawn on location in Rom's home city of Manila, in the Republic of the Philippines during my visit in 1998 and 1999. Would you believe Rom did this picture with only a ballpoint pen, on a small sketchpad, as practice?!? And he reckons he can't draw... Somehow, I don't believe him <smile>

[May and Goldfur in NZ]
[May and Goldfur in New Zealand]
Bernard Doove
(Australia)
"MayFurr and Goldfur's Great New Zealand Tour" (2 pictures)

Bernard and I did a road trip together through the North Island of New Zealand over Christmas and New Year 1998 / 1999 (I had returned home for Christmas through part of my Philippine assignment). Going through Rotorua (a thermal region) was a highlight of the trip for various reasons!

[Oh my god! They've killed MayFurr!]
Michael Thompson
(Canada)
"Oh my God! They've killed MayFurr!"

For a cover for South Fur Lands, Michael proposed a "South Park" theme. Guess who got to portray Kenny :)

[MayFurr meets Godzilla]
Michael Thompson
(Canada)
"MayFurr meets Godzilla"

Not content with killing MayFurr in a "South Park" parody, Michael decided to draw this encounter between MayFurr and Tokyo's most famous resident after learning I was on a business trip to Japan in 2000. You know, if it wasn't for Michael being a nice guy I might be starting to suspect something here... :)

[Confrontation!]
Grant Preston
(NZ)
"Confrontation!"

A scene from "The Gambit Solution", a story written by Grant and myself in 1997. Here Grant's character Lindgold puts the hard word on my character Ranthe Narbalek, to the consternation of Chakat Sundown who has just entered the room!

[Ranthe, by Clark Corwin]
Clark Alan Corwin

"Ranthe"

Another commission from Clark Corwin, this time of May's co-pilot and partner Ranthe Narbalek.
