My Bio

Well, I will be highly surprised if anyone reads this, but I thought I ought to put it in anyway because that's just what you do. Besides, I wanted to write a bunch of crap about myself that everyone would suspect was a load of piffle anyway. Okay, the whole entire point of that sentence was so that I could say "piffle", which has to be one of the silliest words in the English language.

Anyway, so about me. My name is Melissa and I'm 21 years old. I'm studying for a Bachelor of Science at the moment at the Australian National University in Canberra and am so very nearly finished. I major in zoology and my ultimate goal is to be paid for fooling around in the bush or in forests or in Antarctica and watching animals.

I was born on the 7th of March, 1983 - a birthday I'd like to be able to say I share with Shakespeare or Caesar or even Elvis, but unfortunately I can't because it would be an utter lie. I have three brothers and a half-sister, which can make life trying at times. Well, it would if I didn't have my sweet little corgi to complain to. She doesn't seem to mind much about my whingeing.

I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil and since then I've just been working at it with the ambition of one day being very good and actually making some money on the side out of it. In the meantime I draw pictures for my friends and now for my webpage as well as for other places where my art can be found on the web, like on Elfwood or VCL. I draw on everything from my lecture notes to my roof, but as yet I haven't got sick of it so I don't think that's going to happen.

Here's some photos for you:

Here's an old (as in 2002-ish) picture of me because I couldn't be assed finding another new one to replace it.

And here's the new one, a recent (as in 2004) picture of me.

Isn't that a cute shirt! It's got a person in a furry suit onnit.

And this is what my ceiling looks like at the moment. Soon I think I'm going to paint over it with something else because I did this a few years ago when I wasn't actually tall enough to reach my roof properly when standing on a saw horse, so it has some shoddy bits in it.

My room is full of feathers and bones because, true to my raveny nature, I'm a bit of a scavenger. Nature is full of really interesting stuff if you know where to look, and the most interesting stuff is dead, so it doesn't mind if you carry it away from its native habitat and store it somewhere. Once I found a fox skull and discovered that the canines go as far into the skull as they do out of it. Wow, isn't that neat?

Apart from dead things, my room also has about a gazillion 'works-in-progress' in the form of bits of paper with pictures in all stages of completion on them. This makes my room very messy. Another thing that makes it very messy is the fact that I never clean it up.

When I'm not drawing, I'm usually listening to music or writing or reading. My music collection is pretty varied and I have stuff ranging from Brahms and Miles Davis to Tool and Beastie Boys. My favourite band would probably be Led Zepplin, although I love Beastie Boys, too, and I've recently developed an obsession for revivalist swing. My favourite kind of music, though, is jazz. I love reading and am usually reading at least four books at a time.

Well, that's about all I think you need to know about me for the time being. If you want to contact me and make friends or ask for a picture or something, I'm sure I will be ecstatic. Although, be warned because ravens aren't always very sociable and I'm a very busy raven at the moment.
