PRINCESS CELESTIA SOLARIS

Celestia is an alicorn mare who is over eleven centuries of age. Along with her sister, Luna, she was asked to serve as Princess of the newly formed nation of Equestria. When Luna fell to the influence of The Nightmare, Celestia was forced to banish her to the moon using the Elements of Harmony. For a thousand years, Celestia ruled alone, leading the nation to ever greater heights through good times and bad, but always missing her dear sister.

Nearly a millennium later, Celestia took on a young filly named Twilight Sparkle who showed extraordinary magical aptitude as her personal student. Exactly a thousand years after Luna was banished, Celestia sent Twilight to Ponyville ostensibly to supervise the Summer Sun Celebration, but with instruction to "make some friends". When Nightmare Moon escaped from her prison at the festival, Twilight and her friends freed Luna from the Nightmare, reuniting Celestia with her sister at last. For a few years, the two alicorns ruled Equestria together. Celestia continued instructing Twilight who had undertaken many tasks and trials that Celestia was hoping would lead to the mare's ascension to alicornhood.

One day, Celestia was abruptly called away along her sister to travel to an alternate universe to combat a world-class threat that had killed the local alicorns. For reasons unknown, neither returned. Years later, Celestia and Luna emerged from a new portal focused on Celestia's mirror, only to discover themselves in the bedroom of Prince Mark Wells and Princess Trixie. To the dismay of Celestia and Luna, they found out that they had been absent for so long, they had forfeited the Crown and were no longer rulers of Equestria. However, Celestia was pleased to learn that Twilight had achieved alicornhood during her absence though. Officially retired, Celestia chose to holiday and go on adventures with Daring Do. Eventually, growing bored with so much free time, she reactivated the network of informants that had helped her maintain Equestria's stability during her reign. She used this to assist the three current rulers to govern an ever-growing empire. In doing so, she grew close with Mark Wells and eventually asked to join his herd.

Celestia has anthro, griffon, and male counterparts in alternate universes which Mark Wells and Twilight Sparkle explore.
