Appendix A

A Visit to the Monuxes

On one occasion, when I was studying a family group of wlko, both male co-mates went cold. An intestinal infection, probably Xizophilus candidum, had prostrated the whole group (which moved to a different site thereafter). But while all recovered full health quickly, except for the youngest kit twins, who died, the adult co-mates were left impotent.

The family group consisted of two male co-mates, two females, and three (surviving) pairs of twins, and three of the co-mate’s great-great-great-grandparents. The men were given the names "Perry" and "Drushka" by Ornstein and Kittell; the women had been named "Kanyaa" and "Ranee", also by morphologists, but do not show up in the published accounts, and no one in the group remembered the name of the field worker. The males were very similar in appearance, and obviously brothers, but just as obviously not twins. For example, "Perry" had a full row of nipples, "Drushka" had just two pairs. Beyond that, they had different personalities. Both male animals were high-spirited and youthful. "Perry" was quieter and gentler than "Drushka", but also more physical. During my observations (once the males became "red" again, bien entendu), "Perry" coupled with the females 1.37 times as often as "Drushka", and initiated copulation with his co-mate, whether to take the active or passive role, more frequently than "Drushka" did, by approximately the same differential.

The females were twins; appeared to be identical; even for a pretty species, they were beautiful animals and had an abundance of the poise and grace typical of wlko females. Their names, "Perry" explained to me, supposedly meant "princess" and "queen", but he didn’t know which was which or in what language. They were appropriate names, in any case.

The family group had been together for 37 years. The male adults were 55 years old, the females 53, the ancestors of the men were on the order of 145 or 150 years old. All were in excellent health. The breeding couple were youthful-seeming for wlko at their age, which in our terms would be roughly equivalent to late twenties or early thirties. Two of the oldsters (one male, one female) were in fairly robust health and helped with fishing and gathering firewood and so on; the other female, who had a particularly kindly manner and a droll sense of humor, had some sort of infirmity. All participated in tasks relating to taking care of the young and doing useful chores, plaiting baskets, and so on. The death of the youngest kits seemed to affect the oldsters even more than the boys’ parents, which is to say they could hardly even bear to talk about it.

The breeding group at the time of this report included six kits: a pair of daughters of marriageable age (around 16) and another pair of green-eyed young females who had only recently entered menarch (around 12). There were no sexually mature males: two boys, appearing to be identical twins, were about nine. The younger pair of boys were about four when they died as the result of the Xizophilus infestation mentioned above. The nine-year-olds were on the edge of pubescence. Their scrota were still "unripe", in the wlko terminology, but the lengthening of the neck and heavier growth and darkening of the mane was already evident.

Wlkon at that age are very attractive animals, having bodies and personalities which are a pleasing mixture of adult and childlike. These boys had been to two wlkatar that they remembered, as non-participants. As is the norm in wlko households, the pairs of children were very close, emotionally, but these boys were rarely ever more than a few meters distant from one another, and always slept in a tangle of arms, legs, and tails. If anything, this affection increased with the death of the younger pair, which their parents told me had troubled the youths deeply. Given the makeup of this family group, the male youngsters had never been in the presence of sexually mature adolescent male siblings, and in response to my (indirect) questioning, plainly had no inkling of what "sex" might be, nor of the intense and incessant sexual activity that was in store for them once they were "opened". The older female twins clearly remembered the sexual activities of two brothers about ten years older, long since married and living elsewhere. All four young females were friendly toward one another, with however the twin-preference bonding typical of female twins as well as males.

The impotent co-mates, as is the habit of cold males, regularly embraced, caressed, and lay with both one another and their co-wives, almost as though they do not quite understand what has happened to them. But in this case the obvious pubescence ("ripening") of the oldest male children was in the nature of a crisis, as it was more or less imperative that they be "opened" when the time came–and the time was obviously nigh.

The four adults concluded that "Perry" and "Drushka" had no choice but to seek the cooperation of monux bachelors to make them "red" again. It was not an easy decision, and just as plainly the wives were more uneasy than their husbands, but as "Ranee" said to me, several times, it was something that had to be done "for the sake of the children".

I asked to accompany the men. They were reluctant, but eventually agreed. "You know", said "Perry", with a serious look, "how we are. How we are with each other; and how, even though this–" he indicated his groin area, now as creamy as the rest of his ventral fur–"is our life, and you also know how we–" He hesitated. "How we use it. How we need it. And want it. Did I say that already? Want it? Wlko and wlkwy alike. I hope you’re ready for–how the monuxes use theirs. I don’t want you to get upset. I mean, I guess I’m telling you that you mustn’t interfere. That’s all. Just don’t get in the way. You mustn’t."

His warning was justified. It was a stressful experience for them, and painful to witness.

When the day came to set out for the monuxes there was a prolonged leave-taking, almost as though the beasts were going to war. Much nuzzling and licking of cheek and neck, by both the co-wives and the oldsters, and fondling and hugging the kits. The wlko are an affectionate race by any standard, but this was an especially open and extended display of emotion.

 
     
  We set out in the early afternoon. The men had with them a number of bowls of kvass, which they carried in slings made of rushes (Paraxena robusta Boult.) plaited by the co-wives a few days before, a traditional offering to the bachelors. The approach of white-bellied wklon carrying kvass would have unmistakable significance to the ponies, thus sparing the wlkon the embarrassment of having to spell out why they were there. (Normally, in monux society, the harem committee consumes all of the liquor brought to the group as trade for more milk, so "making men" out of wlkon was a "treat" for the bachelors for more than one reason. (Fn 52)

As we walked along, the normally jokey wlkon were subdued, and often talked in low voices among themselves, and in Wlko. This was unusual: so far as I knew, I’d succeeded in keeping secret the extent of my knowledge of their language–I am unable to speak it very intelligibly, so its main utility to me is understanding what wlko say to one another. But most wlko are good-natured and socially open and, if they can help it, prefer not to speak Wlko in the presence of those who (they think) do not know the language. Therefore, though I’d heard plenty of Wlko during my stay in "Perry" and "Drushka’s" family, it was mostly the women and children doing the talking, or the men addressing them (and then, more often than not, helpfully providing me a paraphrase of what had been said).

Thanks to my knowledge of the language, for example, I knew how much distress the young men’s sexual incapacity was causing their co-wives. And how worried the women were for their men’s states of mind, and also worried over this expedition. The degree to which these particular females were attached to their co-mates was not exceptional among the wlko, so far as I could judge. They did their best to keep their anxieties to themselves, but did not fully succeed. The young men had done this before, true, but the females had heard of wlko being killed, at least "in olden times". Or else dying. The likelihood that mass copulation with monux will actually kill an adult wlko is small, but it is understood to be physically challenging–correctly so, as I learned from observation–and it is a reasonable worry that because of an experience which is acutely painful, both physically and emotionally, the newly rekindled males will be so traumatized that they go cold again, or otherwise "be always different" as Ranee put it.

 

Fn 52. In all reports of studies of monuxes, including my own few observations–see Appendix B–the ponies affirm that copulation with a wlko male is a very much more intense sexual experience than masturbation. Further, and to only slightly lesser degree, they freely admit they experience a particular sexual arousal, and derive large personal satisfaction, from penetrating a sexual pervert and ejaculating into him. This paraphrase misrepresents the actual verbiage: monuxes invariably use the coarsest imaginable language when discussing these things: "fucking a fag bloody" is drawing-room conversation compared to their speech. Their contempt for wlkon, particularly in the wake of a sexual encounter, is extreme. I can second Labruière and Hakim’s conclusion ( drac3-2.0226) that monux males would almost certainly attempt to kill wlkon they have coupled with, and in fact could easily do so, except that wlko are themselves formidable animals and the monuxes realize that injury and loss of life on the monux side would be considerable if they attempted any such mayhem. (I must also assume, however, that the bachelors do not realize how debilitated the wlkon are after copulation with monuxes.)

In addition, a significant factor–possibly more important than the bare mention in Labruière and Hakim suggests–I observed that the kvass has a palpable psychotropic effect on the ponies’ dispositions. Their copulatory talk is crudely vicious at first; by the end of the process, the conversation among the monuxes who have obtained sexual release, either through sodomizing a wlko or masturbation, has a more of a locker-room quality–boastful, casually contemptuous. The common thread in their talk is that a monux bachelor who couples with a wlko gives far more pleasure than he receives. This is, of course, far from true, vid. inf.

     
  There was not much conversation en route in any case. At one point, "Drushka" said, in Wlko, something about maybe paying a call on their wive’s clan and seeing if their older brothers–the women’s–could "help them out". "Perry" looked at him sideways and said that wouldn’t do at all. Whether or not their kinsmen agreed to do anything so scandalous, which was very doubtful, word would get out sooner or later and everyone would be disgraced. (Fn 53) And if they refused (the likeliest response), the whole clan would know about it in a day and the whole of the Meggada in a week.

In short, it wasn’t an option.

We spent the night on the banks of a little stream, among some trees. I gathered this was a traditional sojourn for wlkon "going for fire", as they called it several times, and there was plenty of evidence of (temporary) occupation by wlko in the past, though the stream was a mere rivulet, too small for a permanent wlko family site.

The second morning out, I was beginning to wonder if the young men knew what they were doing, when they simultaneously stopped walking and their ears went down.

"They’re here", one of them said to me, in a low voice. "Probably just over that rise. Not more than a kilometer or two away. We’re downwind, so they won’t know we’re coming until they can see us, I expect. Now remember, Mr Roper, do not interfere."

Sure enough, after a couple of rises, we could see a small grove of large shishemu trees (ironically), and under it, relaxing in the shade, was a group of dark gray, pony-like anthropomorphs. Monux bachelors. The main herd was not in sight, but the wlkon I was with said they could smell them.

We approached slowly, me hanging back perhaps two dozen meters.

When the monux caught sight of the party there was much whinnying and commotion as they scrambled to their feet. There were twenty-one of them. They were compact, muscular, and tough-looking, but at the same time definitely living up to their subspecies descriptor "gracilis".

"Well, boys", said one of the monuxes (given the rigid social hierarchy of equid bachelors certainly an older male; possibly even an ex-member of the "harem committee" and, obviously, very far indeed from being literally hulikmik). "Well, well! Look what we have here. Pussy! A couple of juicy-ass faggots hankering for a real fuck with a real man’s dick".

He continued in this distasteful vein, and among their nickering and snorting the other males were making similarly rude remarks.

Several of the males were already erect as they got to their feet. Whether they had been masturbating or were just easily excited was not determinable.

The wlkon stopped a number of meters from the nearest monux and carefully put the bowls of kvass on the ground.

"Here, cousins", said "Drushka". "We have brought you presents. Kvass, and also, please do us honor by taking the bowls as well as enjoying what is in them."

There was much laughing and sneering among the monuxes, and I often caught the words "faggot" (zizi) and "fuck"–that is, the term which among wlko is reserved for heterosexual copulation, whether on purpose or out of ignorance I don’t know–as they gathered around and, on all fours, tails cocked exposing their black-skinned anuses and prominent scrota, lapped up the kvass. (Monux can’t seemingly drink.)

By now, all of the horses were fully erect. The monux penis, as remarked above (fn. 44), is startling. Taken as a whole, monuxes are attractive and well-proportioned animals. The largest males stand barely 180 cm. tall. They have moderately broad shoulders, but like all equids they have deep chests and well-muscled arms. But even though they have large, equid haunches, the erect penis is obviously disproportionate. The organs I saw I estimate to range from 35 to 40 cm in length, that is, it would be large (as such things go) for an animal with a body at least fifty percent larger than the pony-like monux. The circumference of the organ was not quite in proportion, but the diameter was significantly greater than any wlko erection I ever saw.

Roughly the first third of the erect organ, where it emerges from the penis-sheath, is covered with a medium-gray skin, the prepuce proper: when the penis is completely hidden within the body, this thin membrane covers the whole organ including the glans. In the erect state it sheathes the root of the erection in a kind of sleeve. Between the prepuce and the glans, the organ is bright pink, which stands out strongly against the grays and dark grays of the monux coat and markings. ("Masturbating in secret" is a crude monux proverbial expression meaning, roughly, "trying to do what is self-evidently impossible", like carrying water in a sieve.) The glans, which is flat, and reminiscent of a pig’s snout, is dark gray to black. In an erect state it does not flare out to any marked degree, but by its appearance it is obvious that intromission of such an organ into a vagina could be achieved only by an organ of perfect rigidity which, of course, is even more of a necessity for anal intromission.

Three males became so excited during the process, and perhaps giddy from the kvass, that they masturbated to the point of ejaculation (and were raucously teased by their companions). The remaining eighteen all copulated with the wlkon, nine apiece. Then they all did it again, including the three who had masturbated earlier. In addition one veteran male, who had been among the first to go in both rounds, made a third copulation with "Drushka". If my observation of markings is accurate, virtually all of the animals (masturbators excepted) penetrated both "Perry" and "Drushka", so they were in effect, acting out the monux harem routine.

I was able to take full notes. They are repetitive in detail, however, and the following condensed account closely parallels the observations of Kondrashin, Higgins, and Jerome, noticed above; also the sketchier reports of Labruière and Hakim.

  Fn 53. Particularly the females. Except in a wlkatar, for a married wlkwy’s brother to couple with one of her (male) co-mates is regarded as exactly equivalent to brother-sister copulation, and wholly disgraceful. For reasons as yet unexplained, though, it appears that male wlkon will sometimes actually seek out in-law males during wlkatar. There is the possibility that Al-Hassan’s suggestion of specifically homosexual attraction is correct, though it is unobvious how to disaggregate any such urge from normal wlkon male-male sexual attractions which, so far from being perverted, are crucial to procreation. It may be simply that the broken taboo adds "spice" to the experience. Peters and Peters claim that such couplings are rare to non-existent after the creatures reach the age of 115 or so. If true, this could be taken as evidence in support of more than one theory.
     
  "Perry" turned his back to the ponies, his tail held to one side, like the females of many species expecting copulation. He bent his head forward (a posture which I noted increased the "horsiness" of his neck), and in addition assumed a swaybacked stance I’d never seen in a wlko. (Fn 54) He was, in short, presenting his breech to the monuxes, and his whole posture was remarkably similar to the breech presentation of receptive monux mares. An "old" male–perhaps forty–but still an impressive physical specimen, detached himself from the group of bachelors and approached him, talking audibly to himself about "getting a fuck in a little juicy faggot’s ass" and "giving the zizi a real piece of meat to chew on", and so on, and, first glancing back toward the othe bachelors, reached out to put his hands on the wlko’s shoulders. He moved a little closer and then, as far as I could tell, simultaneously introduced the end of his penis between the buttocks of the wlko and leaned forward to take the back of the wlko’s neck in his teeth.

"Perry’s" whole body tensed, the muscles standing out particularly his shoulders and arms, and he inhaled sharply. The pony’s erection slowly entered the wlko, but with some effort on the monux’s part, to judge by the prominence of the muscles in his buttocks, thighs, and sides. The pony’s hoarse sigh, as the penetration started, may have been from exertion or from physical pleasure, or perhaps both. As actual penetration continued, the monux was breathing heavily; as his organ pushed further into the wlko, this became snorting and coughing, and tremors were running through his musculature, particularly his thighs, and he was continually shifting his stance. His tail was sharply cocked up and trembling. When perhaps 13—15 cm of the penis was out of sight, a bit less than half of it, the pony hesitated for a long moment. Then there were a number of short, rapid, pelvic movements that took ca. seventeen seconds altogether, and the animal whinnied loudly. Three, perhaps four violent shivers ran over his frame. Because of the way he was holding his tail, from where I was sitting I could clearly see the dark gray anal tissue that was thereby exposed. Simultaneously with the first of the shivers, I noted strong, rapid rhythic contractions of the anal sphincters, which coordinated with sharp, upward jerks of the tail itself, both reflexes presumably telegraphing the animal’s ejaculatory spasms.

When he had hardly relaxed from the last shiver, he abruptly withdrew his erection. A long string of semen drew out between the wlko’s anus and the tip of the glans, impressively demonstrating the truth of the statements of both wlko and morphographers that monux ejaculate is copious, thick, and tenacious. The monux turned, whinnied again, breathed out forcefully (it was virtually a cough), and said something about how good it was, better than a cunt as far as he was concerned (boasting, probably, though as mentioned this male just might have been a stallion once), that zizi were good for something, and so on.

As rapidly as it happened, the erection was already soft even as the monux was withdrawing from "Perry", and while it appeared to be the same length and thickness, his penis was hanging down–not so much "soft" as limber. Certainly a remarkable change from the bone-like rigidity of seconds earlier. As he ambled back to the other bachelors, still muttering something about zizi, he bent his knees to strip sexual fluids from his flaccid organ with his hand before it withdrew into its sheath.

Meantime, another monux had been penetrating "Drushka", along very similar lines, including the crude and demeaning sexual talk.

The next several ponies to use the wlkon conducted the copulation in almost the same way, the main exception being that actually penetrating the wlko was obviously easier for the second, noticeably so in fact; and the penis of the third did not appear to meet resistance of any kind. Also the wlkon themselves were less tense.

Two principal factors contribute to the difference, according to the wlkon themselves but confirming the obvious hypotheses. First, obviously, was the difference in diameter between wlko and monux penises, which seriously challenge the elasticity of a wlko’s anus; but with repeated intromissions, brief as they are, the tissues become more accustomed to the dilation demanded of them, or else for some other (or additional) reason the wlko merely notices less discomfort. In addition, as indicated above, unlike wlko copulation, the first monux intromission was "dry", i.e. unlubricated, so that the penis was not so much inserted into the wlko’s hindgut as forced into it by the pony’s brute strength–a testimonial, as as been noted by more than one morphographer, to the rigidity of the organ, not to mention a testimonial to the toughness of the wlko’s anal tissues. However, monux ejaculate is copious, adherent, and slick (see App. B), and apparently serves as a lubricant for anal intercourse.

  Fn 54. It was reminiscent of the posture assumed by wlkos when urinating. Male wlkon urinate on all fours, with one leg back and the pelvis to the side, with the buttocks cocked sharply up, and remain in this position for about a minute after voiding, apparently to allow the last drops of urine to fall from the sheath. Females urinate in a sitting posture, different from the usual only in the extra spread of the thighs. {Note: move this note / S.A.R.}
     
 

But this lubricative quality is a mixed blessing. The fourth penetration of "Perry", by a younger male, commenced just as the others had, that is, copulatory movements began when not quite half of the pony’s penis was inside the wlko’s rectum; but then, after two or three reciprocations, the monux paused, threw his arms around the cat’s chest, and with a deep, rasping groan (a sound unlike any I’d heard from a monux up to that point), pulled "Perry" hard against his body. As the full length of the beast’s erection disappeared into "Perry", the poor wlko opened his mouth wider than I’d ever seen a wlko do, and I expected a violent screech in keeping with the gape. But the young man was silent; in fact, he appeared to be holding his breath. By now the customary ejaculatory shivers were coursing over the monux’s body, clasped against the wlko’s back, pelvis tight against the cat’s buttocks. His withdrawal was a fraction slower than his full-length intromission, and left no visual doubt of the feat the cat’s body had performed. (Fn 55)

"Drushka" was similarly used by his fourth "partner". The fifth who coupled with "Drushka" treated him the same way–partial intromission followed by total insertion; since the process is so rapid, it was not possible to tell whether the full-length penetration was simultaneous with or just prior to ejaculation. The cat’s reaction was virtually identical to his brother’s, except that a rasping sound came out of his throat, apparently while intromission was still under way, though it happened too swiftly to be sure.

All the remaining couplings in the first round were of one type: the ponies (now the youngsters) simply started the glans of their penises in the wlkon’s anuses and then immediately slipped the full length of their erections into the cats’ bodies with a loud whinny; made copulatory movements for eleven to twenty-one seconds, tails high; shuddered a few times, with tail-jerks and anal spasms; and withdrew. Even the older males, during their second copulations put their arms around the cat’s chest and executed a total penetration, often announcing something along the lines of "Man, now for a real juicy-ass fag-fuck!" before taking the cat’s neck in his teeth. (Fn 56)

There were more or less lengthy pauses between couplings, so although the actual copulation was brief, the whole process took 49 minutes.

Immediately after the last coupling, the young wlko, still standing with their backs to the monuxes, exchanged a glance and looked over their shoulders. Perhaps they had been counting; in any case they seemed to know it was all over.

"Come on", "Perry" said to me–in Wlko (!), and so softly I hardly heard him–and the two wlkon started to walk slowly off. The monuxes, seeing them go, started to call out insults and taunts regarding wlkon masculinity and sarcastic thanks for the "use" of their "hot pussy", and other remarks of a kind that are familiar among young males of a wide range of cultures.

It was evident that the young animals were in distress. They moved strangely, something like limping. From time to time they rubbed their shoulders and the backs of their necks, where the ponies had held them with their teeth. There was a quantity of brownish red on fur on the insides of their thighs and down to their ankles, but it obviously wasn’t wlko "red". It was blood and feces, mixed with a gummy matter which I guessed, and was later confirmed, was monux semen.

We walked along in silence for some hours. I was waiting for the animals to say something. Eventually I asked if they were all right. "Perry" coughed (a gingerly, invalid cough), and said, softly, that he was as "all right" as someone could be who had spent the afternoon being kicked in the belly by ponies.

"I must be getting old", said "Drushka", and winced as he palpated his neck, turning his head this way and that. "That was awful. I don’t remember it being that bad, before."

"Just once", said the other, "Just once, I’d like to meet a faggot monux. I mean, a pony that wants–"

He trailed off. His brother looked at him strangely "What? Link to something like that? You like being kicked in the gut, just because he prefers drilling under the tail of something that has balls? Do their stupid insults bother you that much?"

"No, that’s not what I mean", said "Perry".

"Drushka" managed a sarcastic laugh, the only expression of humor that either one managed, in my hearing, for two days; but it too had a thready, invalid feebleness to it. "What you mean is, you little pervert, is that you’d like to fuck a monux." (I attach some significance to the fact that he said "fuck" rather than "link".)

His brother just scowled and mumbled something in Wlko I didn’t catch.

When we returned to the trees by the creek, both cats were in a bad way. Both had vomited shortly after leaving the monux group, twice in fact (though especially for "Perry" the second time was mostly dry heaves.) Nevertheless they weren’t hungry at all. They ascribed it to the beating their intestines had gotten from monux penetrations, but for my part I was obliged to marvel once more at the perfection of wlko adaptation: the nutritional value of monux semen has never been assayed, but the orgasmic discharges of twenty-odd monuxes must be the equivalent of at least a meal, if not a day’s rations or even more; and unbeknownst to the wlkon themselves, long before the last discharge of semen into their guts, the big cats’ Horniman Sites were busy digesting the pony’s sexual fluids. It stood to reason that being "made a man" by monux bachelors would negatively affect a wlko’s appetitiveness, on account of the repeated deformations and distensions of their lower digestive tracts to a radical degree, and specifically the pain caused by forcing the cloacal valve. But thanks to the Horniman Sites the ponies had actually provided enough nourishment for the wlkon to tide them over until their intestines would recover from the "beating" (literally) that they had received.

The young men bemoaned the mess in their fur, noting with distress that they were too sore to groom themselves properly. My notes do not relate which one first offered to clean the other up, but I gather such an offer is pro-forma under the circumstances: with a brief remark in Wlko I didn’t catch, he had his head between the other’s thighs, and started licking. Most of the fur matted with semen, blood, feces, and mucus was on the insides of the thighs and in the fur of the perineum and around the anus and root of the tail.

Commenting from time to time on the vileness of "monux juice", each animal in turn kept at it until his brother’s ventral, inguinal, and crural fur was creamy white and clean, free of semen, feces, and blood. (Feces apart, this grooming process meant further nutrition, though it did not seem that the wlkon thought of what they were doing in terms of "eating" at all.)

When they were cleaned up, their spirits seemed to lift slightly but it was obvious that they were still in a dejected frame of mind, especially for the normally amiable and frisky wlko male. As it got dark, they were lying next to one another and had their arms around one another. One of the animals started to make a soft, strange noise which I couldn’t identify at first. It wasn’t until "Drushka" said, in Wlko, "Don’t cry, Perry, don’t cry, it’s OK. Don’t cry. Come on, silky-fur. Come on. Please. Crying won’t do anything about it."

In the muffled conversation that followed, I gathered that "Perry" had realized he was still cold. Having witnessed what he had been through, it was easy to sympathize with his state of mind. And it was easy to sympathize with "Drushka’s" also, since if his brother wasn’t "made a man" in a couple of days, "Drushka" would go cold again. "Perry" knew that, of course, which given his personality I was certain added to his distress.

There was further conversation, during which "Perry" wondered if the risk of social catastrophe from breaking incest taboos might after all be preferable to the monuxes. Then there was no more talk for a bit, but I could see in the light of the two three-quarters-full moons that "Drushka" was lying on his brother’s chest, and licking his cheeks, and muttering to him. "Perry" was crying again, I thought, but as I watched he slowly raised his legs and wrapped them around his brother’s thighs, then higher, so that his heels were next to the root of "Drushka’s" tail.

"Make me", he said, in Wlko. "Drushka" didn’t answer. "Link to me. You’ve got to. It’s the only way. You’ve–"

"Perry" broke off and uttered a cry unlike any sound I ever heard from a wlko, before or since. And from the whimpers and sharp little noises that the animal made for the whole sixteen or seventeen minutes that his brother was sodomizing him, his tissues were in no better condition than one would expect on the basis of what had been witnessed that afternoon.

The men stayed that way long after "Drushka" ejaculated, his first orgasm in many weeks. What would normally have been a rewarding and mutually comforting act was under the circumstances a distressing duty. So far as I know, the last words they exchanged were "Drushka" whispering, in Wlko, "I’m sorry", over and over. "Perry" said nothing that I overheard; I believe he was crying again.

The next morning, when I awoke, "Drushka" was still lying on his brother’s chest, something I never saw wlkon do. When the animals woke up, they weren’t interested in food, but while "Perry" was down by the creek getting a drink, his brother looked at me with a pained expression, and sounding very worried, said, "You heard all that, last night, I suppose."

I said I had. I also asked if the blood on his neck and shoulders meant that "Perry" had bitten him.

"Yes", he said, touching his wounds, which were quite noticeable. "I hurt him." He sighed, and looked down at his groin, where the faintly yellowish precoital fluids known as hkshihh had not yet made any beginnings at turning the fur red. "Mr Roper, that was awful. The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. By comparison, being fucked"–he astonished me by shifting to Wlko and using the term for intromission in a vagina–"being fucked by the kekh-lihhpsh [monuxes] was a pleasure. I hated–I hated doing it. I hated it. But I had to–you understand that, don’t you? You understand so much, I hope you can–" Then, in Wlko, speaking to himself, "But I had to. I had to. Ay, me. Ksh-ksh-ksh-ksh-ksh. Poor, sweet, sweet Perry–"

Touchingly, the beast seemed very anxious that I understand. I did indeed, and did what I could to reassure him.

I offered to dress his wounds from my medicus kit, and he accepted.

 

Fn 55. The wlko large intestine retains feces in a chamber above the rectum proper, and separated from it by the cloacal valve, which is formed by a pair of smooth-muscle sphincters. When this valve opens and feces are passed into the rectum, the wlko experiences a powerful urge to evacuate.

The chamber in question lies at a 30-degree angle to the rectum proper, and at its upper end it joins to the large intestine at a 60-degree angle, roughly, such that the large gut is practically horizontal where it turns 90 degrees to run up the side of the beast’s abdominal cavity. Given Murdoch’s average measurements (q.v.), it is self-evident that the monux penis inserted full length into a wlko’s anus would reach well past the 90-degree turn, doing considerable violence to the normal geometry of the large intestine in the process.

Wlkon reports on the experience are highly consistent. All dread what they know is inevitable during these couplings. They report both sharp, extreme pain and vaguer, but still acute, discomfort. "Being struck (or kicked) in the stomach" is a common expression.

I would speculate that the sharp pain is caused by the penis forcing the cloacal valve open; the source of the vaguer, "struck-in-the-stomach" pain requires no explication. Nor does the blood visible on all monux penises after the first of these full-length intromissions.

It might be added that monux mares receive the full length of their mates’ penises without evident discomfort. The monux vagina is in fact disproportionately long, but was also shown to be highly elastic (mares joke about being able to "taste" the semen when a male ejaculates).

Fn 56. The more experienced monuxes seemed almost ostentatious in gripping the wlko’s neck in their teeth prior to intromission, thereby being unable even to watch as their erections approach and penetrate the wlko. Younger and, presumably, less experienced bachelors, guided the tip of the glans to its target by eye while, say, taking the wlko’s mane in the fingers of one hand. The very young actually held the organ to position it, and one or two made faint masturbatory movements as they adjusted their stance etc. preparatory to addressing the cat’s vent.

     
 

The return to the family site was jubilant, apart from the detail that the men still were not walking normally. There was delight and relief all around, expressed with unashamed frankness, that the co-mates had been made men. I noticed, but never was able to determine the explanation, that neither co-mate ever mentioned to their wives, at least in my hearing, that "Perry’s" making had been achieved by "Drushka" rather than by the monuxes, even though it’s well understood that the monux treatment is uncertain in its outcome. Not two months later the older boys "ripened" and were duly opened by their fathers and got presents. The first and best presents, of course, were their erections, the first ones the boys had had in their lives–a gift of the first sexual stimulation they’d received, by way of demonstration as it were.

And having achieved their first erections, the youngsters were keen on trying them out. There is only one word for the level of sustained sexual excitement that young wlkon are capable of: amazing. Until now, an interval of perhaps two months, they have been even more inseparable than before, and every wrestling match, every water-fight, every hug, every poke and tickle, every nap, it seemed, turned into penetration sooner or later.

On one occasion, in the cool of the evening, their fathers and mothers and I were watching the youngsters playing at postponing orgasm. They took turns, coupling for five minutes or so before swapping around. Their scrota were literally dripping with hkshihh, which was running town the insides of their thighs. One minute they were laughing and taunting one another, the next in intense sexual involvement, and then back again. One of the co-mates chuckled and said something to the other about how the two of them used to be like that, didn’t they. The other said, in substance, that you can’t keep that pace up all your life. Ranee cuffed him playfully on the muzzle and said, reprovingly, in Wlko, "It’s not just that, you scrofulous pair of oversexed rupellids. In case you’ve forgotten, you have more things to do with your black [i.e. penis] nowadays than link to a hkshihh-soaked brother."

It was one of the very few times when a female used the Wlko terms "black" and "link to" in my presence. In any case, all four of the adults were happily scandalized by hearing such vulgar terms from the lips of a wlkwy.

 

Fn 57. The exact mechanism whereby anal intercourse stimulates the male sexual reponse in wlkon is as yet undetermined, but a beginning can be made on an explanation, if only tentatively. If being sodomized by monux is an unreliable trigger, there are two possibilities. Either (a) dilation of the anus and/or distension of the rectum has little to do with it, or (b) something about the unusual degree of dilation and distension and/or the deep invasion of the hindgut has a cancelling effect.

The former is the simpler hypothesis, since it dovetails with the other main difference between the two kinds of coupling. A wlko being sodomized to ejaculation successively by a dozen to twenty monux, the typical range, have erect penises within their bodies for an aggregate total of three minutes or so. One male-male coupling between wlkon, however, takes an absolute minimum of eleven minutes, is rarely less than fifteen, and may run to eighteen or twenty minutes. Furthermore, secretion of hkshihh (in any quantity, at any rate), and the subsequent tumescence of the male being sodomized, typically does not occur until well along in the coupling, and furthermore wlkon universally report that the receiving another male anally is only mildly pleasurable initially, while pleasurable sensations increase as the process goes on. In particular, the "third hand" effect, which both parties to a male/male copulation report as occasioning a qualitative change in pleasurable sensations, typically does not come into play before six to nine minutes of copulation.

This sheds further, and unhappy, light on the necessity of seeking the services of the monuxes. Despite what the monuxes–and almost all early observers–think, there is little pleasurable for the wlkon about being penetrated by the ponies, and much that is physically as well as emotionally punishing. There is some reason for believing that the occasional claims of deriving pleasure from the process (Sec.10.7) is macho boasting rather than honest reporting. "Macho boasting" is, at all events, as rare among the wlko as claiming to enjoy being sodomized by monuxes. See App. B. also Sec.10.7)
